| New York Times Capsule Competition | At the turn of the millennium in the Year 2000, the New York Times invited our proposal for an enclosure of its time capsule that is to be opened in the Year 3000. We proposed the concept of a self-disassembling monument. The monument is composed of 11 granite slabs, 10 of which would peel off at approximately one century intervals by using the salt water of the East River as the battery source. As the slabs give way and become part of the island, the core slab would eventually be exposed and future New Yorkers would be able to uncover the contents sealed inside a glass container. |
