| Olivebridge | The clients wanted a weekend retreat where they could relax with their children away from the city. On a beautiful site in the Catskills, a former garage is enlarged and transformed into a large cottage that strictly retains its vernacular character. The original vocabulary of cedar shingles, sloped roofs, and mullioned windows is used for the exterior, but inside, an informal, freer interpretation of this language provides balance and harmony. Wood of different species is used extensively, but in ways that keep it from being monotonous or oppressive, while homemade fixtures of pierced brass provide a sparkling counterpoint. |
